Drainage

During the 2024 hurricane season our neighborhood and surrounding neighborhoods experienced historic flooding. There were a combination of issues:

  • Our area had an extremely wet summer and the ground was saturated.
  • 7-27-2024 – a storm event occurred which resulted in the flooding of the intersection of Huntington Lane and Green Springs Drive. The City of Safety Harbor staff blocked the intersection at approximately 8:00pm and waters receded enough for cars to pass by approximately midnight. As a result of this storm we discovered the drain between pond 1 and pond 2 was blocked.
  • 8-2-2024 – Wind River Environmental cleared the drain between ponds 1 and 2 prior to the arrival of tropical storm/hurricane Debbie.
  • 8-3 to 8-5-2024 – tropical storm/hurricane Debbie produced heavy rain, and the intersection of Huntington Lane and Green Springs Drive was flooded. Pond 1 was successfully draining into pond 2.
  • 8-8-2024 – Nicole Dommer organized a meeting that included board members and homeowners from Huntington Trails, Huntington Trace, Wind River Environmental staff and Ameritech staff to discuss next steps.
  • 8-28-2024 – City of Safety Harbor had a meeting at City Hall to discuss ownership and responsibility of drainage and pond maintenance.
  • 9-5 to 9-6, 2024 – Wind River Environmental was on premise to inspect drainage system.
  • 9-26-2024 – hurricane Helene hit our area bringing more rain and flooding. This event coincided with a super high tide and full moon.
  • 10-9-2024 – hurricane Milton hit our area bringing rain, wind and flooding.
  • 11-15-2024 – City of Safety Harbor Public Works inspection of Huntington Trails stormwater system at the Board of Directors request.
  • 12-5-2024 – the Board of Directors received the 2024 Huntington Trails Drainage Inspection Report.
  • Since then the board continues to work on obtaining quotes for the work that the city recommended.

The Board of Directors has also been working with the City of Safety Harbor to ensure the integrity of our drainage system.
